Further Test Footage

This footage is shot using the Bokeh Technique. This is where a filter is placed in front of the lens and point the camera towards a source of light. Then, as you come out of focus, the text/shape on the filter should appear.

The Bokeh Technique was developed in Japan and when I went on a university open day to Ravensbourne I was inspired by some work done by a student (shown below) and decided to go home and try it out myself.

I experimented for hours using different words, but found that shorter words had a better effect, such as "me" or "time". If we are to use this in our final trailer, we will need to spend more time experimenting to perfect it.

Due to my location, my house, I had limited access to resources, so the filters I made were made from card, and a scalpel was used to cut out the the words. Due to this creating a fuzzy effect and the words being too big, I have gotten permission to use the school's laser cutter to create several smaller and more accurate filters.

I also tried out two different cameras: Canon 600D and a Canon 700D, and I changed the lens on the C700D from a short range lens to a long range, placing the source of light further away and closer to the camera, trying out a range of scenarios to see what gave the best effect. The camera and lens that gave the best result was the C700D with the short lens, but I will go through this process again when I have the laser cut filters because the outcome may change.
